A Corporate Vastu Audit Should Begin With Evidence, Not Certainty

Traditional spatial language can open a useful conversation. A responsible corporate audit still starts with drawings, measurements, occupancy, and the building code.

The useful question is not whether a room feels lucky

A corporate Vastu review is easiest to trust when it separates three things: what a tradition recommends, what the building is doing, and what the occupants actually experience. Those are related questions, but they are not the same question. A direction or zone can be a useful organising device without becoming a substitute for an air-balance report, a fire strategy, or a structural assessment.

The World Health Organization’s housing guidance treats indoor air, temperature, noise, water, injuries, and accessibility as health-relevant building conditions. The Whole Building Design Guide makes a similar whole-building point for offices: safety, health, comfort, durability, sustainability, and accessibility must be considered together. That is a better starting discipline than promising that a compass heading will create revenue or cure a workplace problem.

Turn a belief into a testable brief

The first deliverable should be a measured plan. Record the building’s true orientation, floor areas, occupancy, entrances, work patterns, HVAC zones, daylight conditions, noisy equipment, and known complaints. Then map the client’s Vastu questions onto that evidence. If the concern is a north-east water feature, inspect moisture, drainage, condensation, and maintenance access. If it is a south-east electrical room, inspect fire separation, access, heat loads, and service clearances.

This approach does not erase the client’s cultural framework. It gives the framework a safe boundary. A traditional recommendation can be recorded as an interpretive observation. A code requirement can be recorded as a requirement. An occupant complaint can be recorded as a hypothesis to investigate. The report should never make the three interchangeable.

What a responsible conclusion looks like

A strong conclusion is modest and specific: relocate a workstation to reduce screen glare; rebalance an air-handling unit; protect an unobstructed exit route; add acoustic absorption near a collaboration zone; or commission an engineer to assess a proposed change. If a Vastu recommendation points toward the same intervention, say so. If the two conflict, safety and law win. That is not a failure of the tradition. It is a failure to understand the job if a report says otherwise.

VastuMitra’s useful role is therefore interpretive and diagnostic. We can help a client read a plan through a spatial tradition, then connect that reading to measurable workplace conditions. The result is more honest, more useful to a facilities team, and less likely to turn a cultural practice into an unsupported performance claim.
